social innovation
chew on this // seattle 2016.
I've been trying to find the right words to describe and define what SOCIAL INNOVATION means to me and why I've decided to actively pursue it now (it's been a near decade fascination & obsession of mine). I guess I had the answer all along in my heart. It dawned on me (during jury duty today LOL) that my favorite quote from a book (which I also used as my tag line on MySpace and for a commencement speech) has actually guided my curiosity and passion for the field all along-- and why I've been drawn to similar impactful projects and pursuits. Paulo Coelho's words in the Alchemist say it all: "When we love, we strive to become better than we are. When we strive to become better than we are, everything around us becomes better, too." //
SOCIAL INNOVATION - there are far more technical, drawn out definitions out there but the bottom line is this -- that the care we have for ourselves, others, our communities, and our environment has to extend out further and weave together in order to create solutions for some of the pressing issues and problems of our time whether it's climate change, inequality, etc.
I don't think it's too late to share the stories of individuals and organizations doing the work. And I want to hear from you. I want to bridge the gap and help make connections, however that may look like... But this is where we start.💡
